Writing Wrongs
“All my past will this day be a part of me, because it is the key, not the lock.” I have resolved to write it all, from the beginning to the present; the story of my life and all it’s bizarre twists and turns. The unvarnished truth of what happened.
I’ve approached this project very differently than anything else I’ve ever written; I have very consciously avoided thinking of who the audience for this story might be.
If I think about who might read this, it would stop me from writing it.
I’ve broken the story up into several sections:
- The Beginning; which recounts my early childhood and the breakup of my home and family.
- The Pedophile; not too hard to figure out what this one is about.
- Juvenile Delinquent; my early years as a fledgling criminal.
- The Village School; a period of brief stability.
- Between New York and California;
- Haight Ashbury, Santa Cruz, LSD and the Grateful Dead; my life completely outside the law.
- My First Felony; the story of my arrest in 1980 at a Grateful Dead concert in San Diego, California.
- Whores Thieves and Junkies; on the run and on the street in San Francisco and New York City in the nineteen-eighties.
- Crime, Cops, Jails and Prisons; Soledad, Clinton-Dannemora, Attica and assorted county jails.
- Change, or Die;
- Clarity; a transformative event occurs.
